If you’re feeling in the holiday spirit (or need to get into it), tonight is the 37th annual Monumental Occasion in Mount Vernon. Good times kick off at 7:00 PM, but show up early for great food from local restaurants, strolling entertainment, and drinks at the neighborhood bars (yeah, I know it’s a Thursday, but it’s the holidays, man!).

I stayed there once, courtesy of the Maryland Department of Business and Economic, and I had a great time. There’s a golf course, trails to walk, and a big pond.
The lobby has an awesome stone fireplace and a really cute receptionist. ;-)
Many of the rooms overlook the pond with a beautiful view of the Appalachian Mountains set just behind. (Virtual tours here.)
I’m not a big fan of Rolling Stone by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s nice to see Charm City represented so well on a national level. Be proud, Baltimore!
